after much research, I decided to have PRK done eventhough I could have had lasik done. It may have been a mental thing but having the lasik flap hang over my head which doesn't really heal even after years...I decided I'd take the pain and longer recovery of PRK.
*I'm 36 years old
Day of surgery: (http://www.woolfsoneye.com/)
I expected another doctor to preform the procedure, but was suprised when Dr. Woolfson himself handled my PRK. It really is a relief to have a doctor who has done over 65,000 procedures and who other doctors, including the Atlanta Facons trust with their eyes!!!
It was quick and pain free, with "strange" visions and a smell of burning hair. a few minutes and it was all over. watching videos make it look bad, but get past that the mental part and it it's a piece of cake.
I was given Vigamox, Ominpred, Nevanac, and Systane eye drops to use 4 times a day.
for pain they gave me Vicodin and 2 phenergan pills to help sleep.
I took the pain pills and slept for the rest of the day.
Day 1:
First checkup and I had about 20/30 vision which they said was very good...as most people couldn't even read the first line of the chart.
Again, took pills and slept
Day 2:
Very bad vision starting out, infact couldn't see 2 inches infront of my face.
more pills and drops, slept most of the day. Not really pain, just couldn't see much.
Day 3:
Could see better, but very blurry...had the feeling of a dirty contact in my eyes.
Watched some TV, but very light sensitive. can't read or use a computer very well.
Day 4:
Again very blurry, and reading a computer screen is out. mostly took pills/drops and slept.
Day 5:
Drove to work!!,next Checkup...looking good, they took out bandage lens, and didn't have the scratchy feeling most people have!!
later that night, I don't know what but everything cleared up...not 20/20, but I could watch TV and use the computer without much discomfort. At this point I was expecting my vision to go downhill some from removing the bandage contacts..just the opposite.
I know this can't be the norm for PRK, and I hope it only gets better...but after just 5 days I seem to be better then some people months after the fact. I haven't had dry eyes yet, and if it didn't get any better I'd be happy, but I know in a few weeks it will be better.
I'll report later, but day 5 has been awsome...don't know about night driving yet.
