another new prk patient

Had mine done on the 5th of Jan.

When I came out from under the laser, I didn't have the "holy God...I can see!" feeling. I was better than before without contacts... but obviously not up to snuff.

Slept most of that day and night. Valium helps ignore the goggles.

For the following 4 days, I could see at distances a little better each day. Getting used to the drops, accumulated dried crud from drops on lashes, slight eye scratchiness (not bad at all...kinda like a contact that's been in slightly too long).

I fretted during that period, but the doctor had told me it could take up to a month per each point of diopter correction... so I could be looking at up to 4 months to know where I'd end up.

It was weird seeing eye charts during that period as I would see extra lines in letters (almost as clearly as the outline of the letters themselves.) I understand this is attributed to the cornea/epithelium healing back, and since it's not a symetric type of deal, you end up with some refraction type effects.

Also...the Wednesday after surgery, I happened to get a drive to the grocery store. Holy halos Batman!. Right eye had big starburst/spiderweb style halos. Left eye not so much. Halos disappeared by the weekend though... no extra light patterns from headlights, streetlights, etc.

Friday after surgery, left bandage contact removed. No discomfort.... Doc, wanted to wait til following Monday to take out the contact on right.

By the following Monday, I was at 20/20 right, 20/25 left.... But.... understand that that didn't mean I could read perfectly at those distances. Corneas obviously still healing, so reading at those distances was real great. Parts of letters on the eye charts were clear...but then you'd get some fuzziness.

So, now I'm just in the healing process... taking my drops four times a day, throwing in lots of artifcial tears, etc.

Today was interesting as I wonder if I didn't rub my eyes in my sleep. Things seem a little fuzzier than they had been. Gonna check to see if you can slightly revert while healing...or what. Could just be real dry eyes, or something though, i guesss.
