PRK (done on January 23, 2007)
So, I went in for a consultation last week (two actually, no sense not getting a second opinion if you are talking about your eyes) and the said that while I was a good candidate for lasik, PRK might be a better option. However, we could make that decision the day of the surgery.
So, I scheduled it for the 23rd, and in the meantime did a little online research regarding PRK. I came across this blog and it was quite useful
I also found a lot of stuff about possible flap complication, and as someone who used to wrestle and would like to perhaps coach one day, the idea of getting cross-faced and having the flap wrinkle or something didn't really appeal to me.
So, the day of the surgery I discussed it with my surgeon and he again pushed PRK. I get the feeling he thinks it's safer than lasik, just from the way he seemed to keep trying to persuade me to do it.
The day of the surgery sucked. Right afterwards I could see great for around 2 minutes and then my vision started to blur. By the time I got home the pain started to set in, and during the 45 minutes it took my wife to get the davorcet fom the pharmacy I was really uncomfortable (not even the valium would work through the pain). After I took it though it was lights out. I also had some 'comfort drops' they gave me which I was supposed to use in moderation becuase they were some sort of numbing agent, and those help too.
Yesterday (day after surgery) was bad all day. I just kept popping the valium and darvocet, used the steroid and comfort drops, and basically stayed in bed all day. Any light hurt my eyes, so the most I could do was lay under the covers and listen to the news.
Today (2 days after surgery) is the first day I am starting to feel better. My right eye feels and sees much better, although my left still has a twinge of pain and is blurry. I can use a laptop (obviously since I'm typing this
) but it takes a litle effort. I'm seeing the surgeon tomorrow to get the contacts taken out so I don't know what my eyesight is atm, but i know I was horrible before (-4.5 or so), and I can sit here 10ft from the tv and actually SEE it with my right eye without glasses. This is very encouraging
