PRK (Jan 8, 2007)

I had PRK done Jan. 8th - today( day 13) my vision is still to blurry to do much of anything. I am getting pretty worried. There is no pain - just fatigue if I try to read or watch tv.

Bandage contacts out yet?

Hi Melody.. I had my contact bandages in longer than I expected. When I finally got them out, my vision regressed considerably. I don't know if that's what has recently happened to you. I think your doctor should have some good info on your recovery. Do you have any periods of clarity.. like right after you get up? If so, just remember those and how long they happen. Slowly but surely those periods will get longer and longer. You should have at a minimum a monthly post-op check up... maybe you should ask about it then?

Hey Matt - Thanks for the

Hey Matt -

Thanks for the info. I had the bandage contacts in for 6 days. I have had a follow up - "everyone's recovery time is different" is what the dr tells me. You're right though first thing in the am there is a minute or two of clarity. Apparently I need to give it some more time but I can just barely see enough to drive during the day (as long as I know the roads) and reading or watching tv is really a strain.

hey melody, i had my PRK

hey melody,

i had my PRK done on the 10th (2 days after you) so we are pretty much at the same point. my vision is really good at great distances, but flat out sucks with anything within 15 feet. my doc said that the close stuf will be the last to come into focus. i too have the clear moment in the morning. i was getting worried until i read where you are at and now i feel much better about what is going on. it's very difficult to focus on anything on my computer and reading the paper is almost as bad. keep me posted on how your progress is going.

Glad I did one eye first (PRK)

I had my PRK on left eye done on the 11th. I have not much pain at all including the surgery day but I did take "preemptive" painkiller. I also had my bandage contact lens in for 6 days. Today is Day 13 and my left eye is still pretty blurry. I am guessing worst than 20/100 but much better than my right eye (-6.5) without contact lens. I printed the eye chart out from the web and check myself where I am at everyday in an attempt to see if I am progressing well.

I think all surgeons should not perform PRK on both eyes at the same time unless the patient strong insisted on and understand the chance of "home-bound" consequence. I would not have been able to drive nor doing anything else if I did both eyes at the same time. I did not mean to make anyone feel bad or anxious if they have both their eye done at the same time. It's just for my particular situation, I would be pretty immobilized for a long while and all surgeon should be err on the conservative side of things.

Good luck to all of us in the healing process. I think the crisp and clarity day will come for all of us. Last but not least to thank people contibute to this blog. It brings real life experience for people considering laser eye surgery.

Eye Chart

Hi Denny, Where can you print out an Eye chart from the internet to test your vision?

Eye Chart

Do a search on google using "eye chart", you will see a lot of them. The one I use is "http://www.i-see.org/eyecharts.html"

a scratch on my left eye....

I have a checkup today (Day 13). Vision is still blurry. Doctor saw a scratch on the eye but he assured me no big deal. I need to go back with the anti-biotics drop and bandage contact lens. A little disappointed. I remember a few nights ago I rub my eye while asleep. Sad That probably is the cause, so be careful once the bandage contact lens is out.
